Description
Peaceful fish that can be kept together with other South-American cichlids. You should set up the aquarium with driftwood and roots that create hiding places. Some large, hard plants can be used as well. A few flat, sloping stones are necessary for spawning. A dimmed light brings out the colours of the fish.
Food
You should give them powerful life food. Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.
Breeding
Breeding is not difficult. 400-800 eggs are laid and fertilized on a flat stone, preferably just below the water surface. After 3 days the eggs hatch and the parents bring the fry to a breeding pit. Another 6 days later the young fishes are swimming free. You can raise them with baby brine shrimp.
Compatible with
Oscars, Plecos and Blood Parrot Cichlids. Other large cichlids with similar water requirements
